Support Finances and Accounting oversight at Minus18 - it's a volunteer position on the Minus18 Board supporting our mission. 

The Treasurer is an office bearer on the Board of Directors responsible for the financial oversight, planning, record keeping and reporting. Specifically, the Treasurer is responsible for:

  • Meet bimonthly with the CEO to prepare organisational budgets and projections to the Board;
  • Liaise with bookkeeper regularly;
  • Preparation of quarterly reports, and annual AGM reports;
  • Preparation of accounts and systems for audit review, and liaising with auditors;
  • Review and providing advice on current financial systems and policies;
  • Manage asset control through insurance and record keeping;
  • Act as a signatory for outgoing transactions of the Foundation;
  • Ensure compliance and reporting obligations are met.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work alongside a team of staff and volunteers to produce exciting and inclusive LGBTI youth music, social and fundraising events.
  • Provide advice and support to young people to create smaller social get togethers.
  • Seek sponsorship opportunities to unlock future projects and events. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with venues, artists, suppliers and donors. 
  • Curate positive and inclusive experiences that cater to the diversity within our community.
  • Build and maintain our database of young people and supporters to grow our engagement and revenue.
  • Produce high quality and creative mailouts to create new promotion / engagement opportunities.
  • Support the vibrant, positive and collaborative culture of Minus18 as a youth driven organisation.
  • Ensure compliance with funding guidelines and safety requirements.

 

Key selection criteria 

  • Lived experience and connection to LGBTI youth and social change.
  • Big ideas for and experience in database / engagement growth, especially in creating pathways for event attendees to later become donors.
  • Demonstrated experience working on high impact and inclusive events.
  • Highly organised, self driven with a keen attention to detail.
  • Energetic networker with a love for fostering relationships. Experience engaging with sponsors and donors a plus.
  • Demonstrated marketing / promotional experience and ability to speak with a youth voice. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and inspire others.
  • Connection to diverse identities within the LGBTI community, including people of colour, people with a disability, and people from regional and rural areas. 

About the Minus18 Foundation 

Minus18 is Australia’s youth driven organisation for LGBTI young people.
We are young people leading change, building social inclusion and advocating for an Australia free of homophobia and transphobia. Our vision is a community where all young people, regardless of their sexuality or gender identity, are safe, empowered, and belong.

From 2017-2019 Minus18 aims to focus on consolidating its extensive range of youth support and advocacy projects through promoting;

  • Inclusion of the intersectionalities within our community throughout every initiative of our organisation as well as through increasing our connections with others within the space. 
  • Community Education to create a more inclusive Australia through workshops, resources, encouraging community led action and fostering relationships with schools and community organisations.
  • Support and Awareness of LGBTI youth through events, resources and campaigns.

 

Requirements 

  • Experience or relevant education in finance, accounting, auditing or related
  • Successful Victorian Working With Childrens Check
